SUMMARY:Manchester - Sanctuary\, Support\, Accompaniment & Advocacy Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sanctuary\, Support\, Accompaniment & Advocacy\n\n\nNext Meeting:  \nTuesday January 16th at 10:30 am\nBlessed Sacrament Parish in Manchester\nRight after the Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Immigrant Rights at the Norris Cotton Federal Building\, 275 Chestnut Street Manchester at 8:30 am \nWho we are? \nWe are people of faith organized through the Granite State Organizing Project (GSOP) and allied groups to respond to the fear and anxiety in our community as a result of an increase in immigration enforcement\, heightened law enforcement and random acts of hate. \nWhat is the role of my congregation? \nWe will organize teams to support\, stand with and accompany immigrants\, refugees\, Muslims\, and others as they are impacted by an increase in immigration enforcement\, heightened law enforcement or acts of hate.  A congregation is free to choose what role will work the best for them when they decide to become a part of the network. \nAccompaniment: \n\nIf an immigrant has to report to ICE: Under new rules of the Trump Administration\, many immigrants who for years have reported to ICE for scheduled check-ins and been allowed to stay in the U.S. have now been prioritized for deportation. We will accompany immigrants as they report to ICE and organize the community vigils for support.\n\nSupport & Advocacy: \n\nIf an immigrant is detained by ICE: We will offer support to families as they navigate life without their detained loved one and work to get them released. This could include rides\, food\, childcare\, making appointments\, housing\, financial assistance\, etc.; going with them to court hearings; and engaging elected officials & organizing vigils/public actions around the case.\n\nSanctuary: \n\nIf a person fears deportation: Some congregations may decide to offer sanctuary to a person who fears deportation and separation from their family.  Sanctuary is a public act of civil disobedience.\n\nRapid Response: \n\nIf there is an ICE raid: When we get a call that a raid is happening\, we will call the teams to the site of the raid to hold a prayer vigil\, document what happens\, and be a presence for the family.
