SUMMARY:Online - Peace & Justice Conversations: Decarceration
DESCRIPTION:The United States incarcerates people at about six times the rates of most European countries\, at a cost of many Billions to American Taxpayers\, and with higher recitivation rates that countries who seek alternatives to incarceration. Incarceration is applied disproportionately to people of color\, while white people who commit the same crimes tend to be remanded to alternative punishments. \nJoin Anthony Harris for a discussion of mass incarceration in America\, and the work being done to challenge this paradigm. \nAnthony Harris is the Co-founder of\, Next Chapter: The B.O.S.S Initiative. The Mission of Next Chapter: The B.O.S.S Initiative is to help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully walk the path from prison to prosperity. ” We seek to help our clients live productive lives via job training\, mentorship\, life coaching\, health and wellness counseling\, stress management\, and affordable housing. Regardless of race\, color\, creed\, gender\, or religion\, we will provide community support to men and women who’ve made mistakes in life and want to change for the better. This will help increase public safety and the productivity of our neighborhoods. Anthony’s lived experience gives him an edge on the problems that plague our criminal justice system and gives him the ability to assist in decreasing the recidivism rate. Anthony is also the managing Member of Rootz Natural Hair Shop’s LLC\,\, which is run by his better half\, Shaquwanda Allen. He was also recently nominated to sit on the board of the New Hampshire ACLU! Anthony is the Former Decarceration Organizer for the American Friends Service Committee. Anthony is also on the Rights and Democracy NH’s Health and Overdose Crisis Team.
