SUMMARY:GHHS Artwork Unveiling and Reception 11.14.23
DESCRIPTION:The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) chapter at the Geisel School of Medicine created Project HEAL in 2021 to promote anti-racism and critical self-reflection in the Upper Valley (NH/VT) and medical school through art\, education\, and advocacy. The Class of 2023 GHHS cohort identified the need for a sustained acknowledgment of Native and Indigenous people. They proposed an artwork to honor and recognize the Indigenous and Native people\, particularly the Abenaki people\, upon whose land the College stands.

SUMMARY:NH Immigrants Solidarity Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Join the Immigrants Solidarity Vigils\, the first Tuesday of the month at the ICE office in Manchester groups of faith and other supporters are welcome to join the vigils at the Norris Cotton Office building\, 275 Chestnut St\, Manchester at 9 AM.  The vigils are organized by the Immigrant Solidarity Network which is a program of Granite State Organizing Project. \nThe  Vigils consist of an opening ceremony\, songs and the “Jericho Walk\,” where attendees circle the block around the building seven times in accord with the biblical story from the Book of Joshua.  But\, instead of praying for the physical walls of the Norris Cotton Building to collapse\, they pray that the walls of injustice facing immigrants will come tumbling down.  After the vigil are prayers\, updates from community members and closing prayers. \nThe Immigrant Solidarity vigils provide immigrants and their supporters a chance to meet each other and “coalesce for a common cause.”  Those who have to check in with ICE\, always fearful of an order that could force them to leave the communities where they have settled\, have reacted at first with puzzled looks\, but once they know what we’re doing they are grateful and know there is support for them in our community. \nThese vigils tell ICE and the Government; that we’re still here\, that we still care\, that we’re watching what’s going on and that we will continue fighting until we achieve a fair immigration system that works for all.

SUMMARY:Immigrants Rights Network NH
DESCRIPTION:AFSC NH convenes the NH Immigrant Rights Network for policy advocacy at the federal\, state\, and local levels.  The network has monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month.  To be added to the email please contact afscnh@afsc.org\, for more information on AFSC NH\, go to their website at AFSC.org/NH. \nThis past year the Immigration Rights Network advocated for expanded driver license access for immigrants\, and in opposition to an anti-sanctuary cities bill. we opposed the creation of the new Northern Border Alliance task force which will direct NH tax dollars to border enforcement in the North Country\, without any data to support the need. We’ll continue to organize with other leaders to engage North Country residents and lawmakers to call for divestment from anti-immigrant political schemes and to invest in real human needs such as public education\, broadband access\, affordable housing\, and recovery supports. At the federal level\, we advocated with our Members of Congress for the rights of asylum seekers\, a path to citizenship\, cuts in funding for ICE and CBP\, and an end to Title 42.

SUMMARY:Welcoming NH Table
DESCRIPTION:Welcoming New Hampshire is a coalition of organizations and community leaders from across the state coming together to make New Hampshire more welcoming for everyone\, with a particular focus on welcoming immigrants and refugees. We come together to learn from one another and to collectively raise up and address community concerns. \nJoin us Thursday\, January 11th at 9 AM\, via zoom\, to hear Andrew Palhof speak about the New England Collaborative Advocacy for Rights\, Equity\, and Safety Group (CARES). \nAndrew is a Regional Compliance Assistance Specialist with OSHA\, conducting outreach training programs and providing technical support for OSHA’s compliance and outreach efforts.  Andrew recently started CARES as a collaborative initiative in the region that unites government and non-government organizations to protect and advocate for the workplace rights of immigrants and underserved populations.  Andy previously worked as an OSHA Compliance Officer\, and a Safety Consultant for the NH OSHA Consultation program and has more than a decade of experience performing inspections and outreach sessions.  Andy received his Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety Studies from Keene State College and an Associate Degree in Applied Science\, fire Science from Laconia Technical College. \nIf you aren’t on the Welcoming NH Table mailing list and would like to be added or to just join us via zoom for this event email: Welcomingnh@miracoalition.org. \nThe Welcoming NH Table is the core of Welcoming NH.  The Table is a Bi-Monthly gathering with Informational speakers\, networking\, member updates. The table is meant to build professional relationships\, opens doors to new opportunities\, and facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices. It also aids in individual career development\, personal growth\, and success as well as the success of our goal to make NH more welcoming. \nWelcoming NH partners work to make NH more welcoming to immigrants by working to supply the services and by addressing the obstacles immigrants meet\, which keep them from becoming full participating members of our community. To accomplish this we must address the laws\, rules\, and statutes that create obstacles to our work. To assist in that work and making NH more welcoming\, we must address the larger culture in NH and counter the racist and xenophobic environment to make our community and legislators realize that when immigrants enter the labor force\, they increase the productive capacity of the economy and raise GDP. Their incomes rise\, but so do those of natives. It’s a improved phenomenon dubbed the “immigration surplus.” In addition to economics immigrants bring diversity and enrich the communities they join culturally. \nPlease join us at the welcoming table if you work with immigrants or if immigrants are a part of the communities you work with or support. \n \n
