SUMMARY:Online - NH People's Budget Community Conversation: Public Health & State Budget
DESCRIPTION:New Hampshire people deserve a state budget that invests in our communities’ health\, education\, recovery\, opportunity\, and vitality. Not one that gives tax cuts to the wealthiest at the expense of essential services and programs. Stand with us to demand that we the people deserve a state budget that serves ALL Granite Staters!\nRecently\, the NH House passed the budget on a party-line vote\, approving a proposal that would eliminate hundreds of positions in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and underfund public health services by about $100 million.\nThese proposed cuts and shortfalls to DHHS are designed to pit our community services against each other. Join this event to learn more about what it would take to break down the silos in our public health system\, move beyond scarcity and meet the real needs of real people.\n\nLearn more about the NH People’s Budget demands here: https://drive.google.com/…/1-E2PqQ73V8BFKW1Go0LmUG…/view\nThe fight for the budget is far from over. Join us to learn ways you can take action to demand that our elected officials build a budget that works for ALL of us.\n\nRegistration Link:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUvfuihqjgoHtDKginJh8y25KMQ_lmPAnv7?fbclid=IwAR1qA534K09f9awOeZQHCI01w-VMgHgLzEHfrCi2PqkyYETaNEFCZyqi31w

SUMMARY:Online - Anti-Racist Action: A Continuous Transformation
DESCRIPTION:A series to help build your understanding of what it means to be anti-racist and how to take intentional action for sustainable change.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with New Hampshire for Anti-Racist Education (NHARE)\, “Anti-Racist Action: A Continuous Transformation” will help build your understanding of what it means to be anti-racist and how to take intentional action for sustainable change in your community. Active listening and internal reflection are the springboard for which anti-racism work begins. The work in this series is simply the first step on a long road towards change. Facilitated by Adaeze Okorie and Grace Landry\, the Co-Founders of New Hampshire for Anti-Racist Education\, these workshops are driven by the insights they both learned through their personal and collaborative work. From internal reflection to community action\, this interactive workshop series steps through how we can begin to take anti-racist actions for continuous transformation. In anti-racist work we ask ourselves\, not just what are we doing\, but who are we becoming? \nRead more and Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/anti-racist-action-a-continuous-transformation-tickets-150533934049?fbclid=IwAR0npVoAXJ5yRLvDYk0fuild6RSlGxwjVkSyfLoVHZvemYqcS1R67LpmIEg

SUMMARY:Frederick Douglass Statewide Community Readings
DESCRIPTION:On July 5\, 1852\, Frederick Douglass\, an abolitionist and heroic orator for liberty\, delivered one of his most famous speeches in which he asked\, “What to the slave is your Fourth of July?” In addressing an Independence Day observance in Rochester\, New York\, his speech was a blistering indictment of an American idealism that ignored and accepted the inhuman treatment of enslaved African Americans as part of the country’s identity and economy. Ironically\, even though Douglass’ words spoke directly to this moment in history\, they still ring with an unsettling power today. \nFor the past several years\, on July 3rd\, the BHTNH has collaborated with community leaders around the Granite State to bring people together to read Douglass’ historic protest speech and to reflect on its meaning. \nWhile reading Frederick Douglass’ work is a powerful experience for many\, it is only one piece of the long-overdue conversations that our communities need to have. We hope that these readings will be a starting point for these difficult dialogues and that they will provide an opportunity for us to engage in deeper conversations that will lead to actions to help build more inclusive and just communities today. \nDetails for the 2021 Community Readings and how to get involved coming soon! SUMMARY:Portsmouth - A Quest to Thrive: Economics of Slavery & Portsmouth’s Early Black Community

This tour brings into focus an economic system dependent upon the international slave trade with its constant supply of kidnapped unpaid African workers and their descendants\, who\, against the odds\, created one of this country’s oldest Black communities. \nRegister for this walking tour
