DESCRIPTION:The NH Women’s March is an empowering event in support women’s rights\, human rights\, social and environmental justice. The Portsmouth event is hosted by several grassroots organizations with deep roots and commitment to advancing these values in our community. \n***************************************************************************** \nThere will be 6 speakers at 1 pm followed by and an ACTUAL MARCH around downtown Portsmouth with the magnificent Leftist Marching Band! We will take our voices\, our music and our signs down Daniel Street towards the Memorial Bridge and back on State street. We will have peacekeepers to help us cross the roads and stay on sidewalks. \nIt’s been three years since the original Women’s March! Last year we marched again and in both years some of us marched from the Lincoln Memorial to the White House\, some of us went to New York or Boston or Concord. In 2017 over 3\,500 of us came out and closed down the roads of Portsmouth. \nAs a show of solidarity\, to demand our rights to safety and health\, as well as demonstrate our strength and courage\, we’ll be having another Women’s March event here in Portsmouth\, NH that everyone is welcome to. As bad as things are\, imagine how bad things would be if we hadn’t come together\, resisted\, and organized. It’s time to gather again and make our voices heard! \nThis is an INCLUSIVE event\, and EVERYONE who supports women’s rights and human rights FOR ALL are welcome. Invite your friends\, family and co-workers. Spread the word!. \nWe’ll be gathering in front of North Church\, Market Square at 1 PM! \nIf you’d like to help us organize please message us here! \nThis is an event for ALL\, including: women\, girls\, gender non-conforming\, men\, boys\, trans\, people of every race\, religion and nationality\, refugees\, Immigrants and citizens\, the LGBTQ+ community\, people with disabilities\, climate change advocates\, veterans\, Native Americans and anyone else who wants to come out in support of all of our rights \nThe Seacoast Women’s March 2020 is being organized by Occupy NH Seacoast and\, if there are other organizations that wish to step up and join us\, they can message us here. \nPlease take a moment to mark if you’re coming or interested and invite your friends!. We need your help to make this a success and FB now limits the number of people we can each invite. \nSouth Church of Portsmouth will be hosting a sign-making party at noon on the day of the event.\nIdeas For Signs:\nSTAND ON THE SIDE OF LOVE\nMAKE AMERICA KIND AGAIN\nDISARM HATE\nBLACK LIVES MATTER\nLIVE IN LOVE\nCELEBRATE DIVERSITY\nWOMEN’S RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS\nWE WILL NOT BE SILENT\nMARCH FOR WOMEN’S LIVES\nSTOP THE WAR ON WOMEN\nGET YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY\nREPRESENTATION NOT EXPLOITATION\nSILENCE EQUALS VIOLENCE\nTHE FUTURE IS FEMALE\nTHIS IS WHAT FEMINISM LOOKS LIKE\nBE BRAVE BE VIGILANT\nI WILL NOT GO QUIETLY BACK TO 1950’S\nNO ONE IS FREE WHEN OTHERS ARE OPPRESSED\nDIVERSITY IN ACTION\nYOU CAN’T GRAB OUR RIGHTS\nDO NOT UNDERESTIMATE US\nMAKE AMERICA THINK AGAIN\nLOVE IS >HATE\nBUT STILL LIKE AIR WE RISE\nOUR RIGHTS SHOULD BE SELF EVIDENT\nWHEN THEY GO LOW WE RESIST\nME TOO \nPortsmouth parking Map:\nhttps://www.cityofportsmouth.com/publicworks/parkportsmouth/parking-map \nThere is a new Parking Garage! – Foundry Place!\nhttps://www.cityofportsmouth.com/publicworks/parkportsmouth/foundry-place-garage \nPlease keep in mind we want to be able to continue actions like this in Portsmouth\, so we’re asking that everyone be sure that we do not leave any trash behind and leave Market Square as we found it or better.

SUMMARY:Webinar - NPNA Family Protection Network: The Field Response to the Proposed Fee Increases
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear how the NPNA Family Protection Network and organizations that offer legal services are responding to the proposed threat of the Trump administration increasing application fees. The change would effectively price out millions from citizenship\, lawful permanent residency\, DACA\, asylum\, and other forms of immigration relief and benefits. Hear how organizations are utilizing the current moment to encourage citizenship and other applications in their community.  \nRegister Here\n\n——-\n\n\nOn November 14th\, 2019\, the Trump administration published its proposed fee schedule regulation that targets low-income and working class immigrants by effectively pricing them out of citizenship\, asylum\, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)\, work permits\, and other forms of immigration status and benefits. \nIf implemented\, this rule would: \n\nIncrease citizenship application fees by 83 percent\, increasing the N-400 fee from $640 to $1\,170;\nCreate a $50 fee for filing certain asylum applications and make asylum seekers pay $490 for a work permit;\nIncrease the cost of DACA renewals from $495 to $765;\nEliminate fee waivers for citizenship\, lawful permanent residency\, employment authorization\, and other applications;\nTransfer $112 million in applications fees from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for enforcement purposes\, including denaturalization.\n\nSince the fee rule announcement\, we responded in opposition swiftly and collectively submitted nearly 30\,000 comments! The vast majority of comments received were in opposition of the proposed fee rule. \nICYMI: Over the holiday break\, NPNA submitted this Final Comment together with our NPNA member organizations\, and organized the Mayoral Sign-On Letter Opposing the Proposed Rule led by Mayor Bill de Blasio\, New York City\, Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago\, and Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles together with 48 Mayors and County Executives. \nJoin our upcoming webinar to hear how the NPNA Family Protection Network and its members including the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC)\, CASA and OneAmerica are responding to the proposed threat of the Trump administration increasing application fees\, along with national allies including the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). \nSpeakers include: \n\nDiego Iniguez Lopez\, Policy and Campaigns Manager\, NPNA\nIván Parra\, Director of Services\, Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC)\nGeorge Escobar\, Chief of Programs and Services\, CASA\nErin Lynum\, Associate\, Practice and Professionalism Center\, AILA\n\n\nRegister Here

In this highly interactive session we present information\, share experiences\, and strategize bystander responses to a variety of situations. Participants will learn about roles we all play\, what discourages us from acting when we see harm doing\, how to move through this resistance\, tools to use when we are ready\, and basic principles to guide our actions. \nContact Aron DiBacco at adibacco@granitestateorganizing.org or 603-668-8250 to for information about this program. \nGSOP is the largest grassroots community organization in New Hampshire. We are comprised of religious congregations\, community groups\, labor organizations and individuals in New Hampshire united in our concern for economic and social justice.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Advancing Equity: A Racial Equity Journey
DESCRIPTION:Discrimination based on race and ethnicity can negatively affect health across lifetimes and generations. Racial inequities are not random. They have been created and sustained over time by unfair and discriminatory policies and practices at many levels. Inequities will not disappear on their own\, but communities have the power to disrupt them.\n\nJoin us on November 12\, 2019 as we team up with the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) to share how the Spokane Regional Health District began their journey toward disrupting racial inequities in Spokane\, WA. We’ll explore how the Health District got started\, some lessons learned along the way\, and what they hope to achieve. We’ll also share the framework they’re using to build their internal capacity and discuss how you can use it to embed racial equity considerations in your community’s practices.GARE is a national network of government jurisdictions working to achieve racial equity and advance opportunities for all. It is a joint project of the new Race Forward and the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society. \n\n\n\n\n\nNov 12\, 2019 2 PM Central Time (3 PM Eastern) \n\nRegister Here

Rosi spent months living on the Mediterranean island\, capturing its history\, culture and the current everyday reality of its 6\,000-strong local population as hundreds of migrants land on its shores on a weekly basis. The resulting documentary focuses on 12-year-old Samuele\, a local boy who loves to hunt with his slingshot and spend time on land even though he hails from a culture steeped in the sea.

SUMMARY:Concord - Home Now: How 6000 Refugees Transformed an American Town
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 1st\, 2019\, 6 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore\, 45 South Main Street\, Concord\, NH. \nFree and open to the public. \nCynthia Anderson shares a moving chronicle of struggle\, transformation\, and who belongs in America. Her new book Home Now: How 6000 Refugees Transformed an American Town\, tells the impactful story of Lewiston\, Maine. \nThe once-thriving city of Lewiston had fallen on hard times–mills closed\, jobs gone. It was mostly white\, and the young were leaving. Then thousands of African Muslim immigrants came to town. \nOver the past 15 years\, Lewiston\, Maine has improbably become one of the most Muslim towns in America. About 6\,000 of the city’s 36\,000 inhabitants are African refugees and asylum seekers\, many of them Somali. Cynthia Anderson tells the story of this fractious yet resilient mill town near where she grew up\, offering the unfolding drama of a community’s reinvention–and humanizing some of the defining political issues in America today. \nIn Lewiston\, progress is real but precarious. With empathy and honesty Anderson takes the reader deep into the lives of both immigrants and lifelong Mainers: a single Muslim mom\, an anti-Islamist activist\, a Congolese asylum seeker\, a Somali community leader. Their lives unfold in these pages as anti-immigrant sentiment rises across the US and national realities collide with those in Lewiston. Home Now gives a poignant account of America’s evolving relationship with religion and race\, and provides a sensitive refutation of the idea that we’d be better off without change. \nView flyer: Home Now at Gibson’s Bookstore
