SUMMARY:Deering - All Eyes Are Upon Us: Racial Struggles in the Northeast\, from Jackie Robinson to Deval Patrick
DESCRIPTION:From Brooklyn to Boston\, from World War II to the present\, Jason Sokol traces the modern history of race and politics in the Northeast. Why did white fans come out to support Jackie Robinson as he broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947 even as Brooklyn’s blacks were shunted into segregated neighborhoods? How was African-American politician Ed Brooke of Massachusetts\, who won a Senate seat in 1966\, undone by the resistance to desegregation busing in Boston? Is the Northeast’s history a microcosm of America as a whole: outwardly democratic\, but inwardly conflicted over race?

SUMMARY:Pembroke - Immigrant and Refugee Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Immigrant and Refugee Support Group\nHere are some key tasks members of this group focus on: \n\nSupporting the Maranatha Indonesian UCC church in person by visiting them on the first Sunday of the month for their English service. No experience necessary. If you get to know someone with an open case you could write a letter of support for them which could help persuade the judge to decide in their favor.\nAlthough membership in the Maranatha Indonesian UCC has rebounded some since the 2011 deportations people with revocable immigration statuses are feeling threatened again. Send letters of encouragement to their congregation at 18 Town Hall Rd Madbury\, NH 03823.\nPastor Sandra says\, “When you make the choice to call your Members of Congress and Senators\, those calls make a difference.” The persistence of a small active group is needed!\nThe public needs to know about the benefits of welcoming immigrants. You could host an educational event at your church or attend a rally.\nThe group has recently has organized to provide financial support for immigrants detained in NH. Download the fundraising letter to learn more.\nJoin the Immigrant and Refugee Support Group and learn! \nNancy Pape\nNHCUCC Immigrant and Refugee Support Group\, chair\nEmail: nancy-pape@comcast.net\n\n\nMeeting Schedule\nThe next meeting of the Immigrant and Refugee Support Group will be: \nFriday\, September 7\, 2018\, 10 AM – 12 PM at the\nNew Hampshire Conference Center\n140 Sheep Davis Road\nPembroke\, NH \n\nFour-Day “Solidarity Walk for Immigrant Justice” to Begin August 22\nNew Hampshire faith leaders announced that they plan to trek from Manchester to Dover in a four day “Solidarity Walk for Immigrant Justice” beginning on August 22nd.  Father Samuel Fuller\, OFM Cap\, a Franciscan Friar serving at St. Anne-St. Augustin\, Manchester’s most diverse parish\, said “Our walk will mirror the trip an immigrant who is detained by I.C.E. takes from the Federal Building to the Strafford County Jail and possible deportation. Sadly\, this is a journey several of our parishioners have already made in shackles and in fear.” \n\nImmigrant and Refugee Support Group Seeking Lawyers to Assist with Bond Hearings\nWould you volunteer your time to help free eligible immigrants from immigrant detention? \nIf so\, consider attending the upcoming training designed to teach lawyers\, with no immigration law expertise\, how to do an immigration bond hearing. Mentoring is also provided. \nBond Training \nDate: September 13\, 2018\nTime: 6:00 PM – 08:30 PM\nPlace: New England College (Concord Campus\, 62 N Main St\, Concord\, NH 03301) \nClick here to RSVP

SUMMARY:Concord - Community Forum in Response to Scotus Muslim Ban Decision
DESCRIPTION:The Supreme Court just allowed the Muslim ban to continue. \nIn a 5-4 ruling\, justices sided with this cornerstone of Trump’s discriminatory immigration policy. The latest version of the ban limits entry to the United States from citizens of five Muslim-majority countries in addition to a miniscule number of North Koreans and Venezuelans. \nLet’s be clear: This is a loss. But this isn’t the end of the fight – we’re committed to taking down this discriminatory ban on every front – in Congress\, in the courts\, and on the streets. \nWe are working in coalition with other groups to provide a space for community and solidarity in the wake of this decision. \nSpeakers include:\n– Robert Azzi who does a lot of “Ask a Muslim Anything” across NH\n– Asma Elhuni a Libyan Muslim woman and organizer with United Valley Interfaith Project\n– Devon Chaffee Executive Director for the ACLU of New Hampshire\n– and you!

SUMMARY:Manchester - Families Belong Together
DESCRIPTION:Families Belong Together – NH Protest\n\nAttend our #FamiliesBelongTogether rally in Manchester\, NH to protest Donald Trump’s decision to separate kids from their families at the border and keep kids in detention centers across the country. \nJune 30 is a national day of action – bring your friends\, family\, and snarky signs. It’s time to use our outside voices. Donald Trump and his administration are cruelly separating children from their families. But we won’t allow it to continue. \nOn June 30\, we’re rallying in Washington\, D.C.\, and around the country to tell Donald Trump and his administration to stop separating kids from their parents! Trump and his administration have been systematically criminalizing immigration and immigrants\, from revoking Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to ramping up intimidating ICE tactics. \nJoin us on June 30 to send a clear message to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress: Families Belong Together! \nBy participating in this event\, you agree\n(i) not to engage in any act of violence or violation of any applicable law\,\n(ii) to obey the orders of authorized event marshals and law enforcement authorities\, and\n(iii) that event organizers and sponsors will not be responsible for any injury or damage to your person or property resulting from or occurring in the course of your participating in the event\, and you agree to release and forever hold harmless event organizers and sponsors\, and their respective officers\, directors\, employees\, and agents from liability for any such injury or damage. \n\n\nhttps://act.moveon.org/event/families-belong-together_attend1/19921/?source=taf

SUMMARY:Dover: #FamiliesBelongTogether Rally and City Council Action
DESCRIPTION:It is SO important for communities to come together to raise up our voices against injustice when we encounter it. Injustice is the Trump Administration’s policy around separating families at the border. Injustice is CBP questioning people waiting to board a private bus on Memorial Day weekend. Injustice is CBP setting up checkpoints on highways nearly a hundred miles away from the border. \nJoin us for a rally in front of Dover City Hall to say NO to separating families and YES to keeping families together. From there we’ll all go to the Dover City Council meeting to urge them to take action as well.

SUMMARY:Manchester - My Voice Matters
DESCRIPTION:My voice matters because… \nIt’s my town.\nIt’s my job.\nIt’s my family’s health.\nIt’s my child’s education. \nWhen family members act as advocates\, their children do better. Educators\, physicians\, employers\, and elected leaders want the best for you and your family. They count on you to let them know what would be helpful. \n“Deciding to be an active advocate for your child can seem hard\,” said Julie Day\, Strengthening Families Director at New Hampshire Children’s Trust\, “but we know just how much parent voices matter and how easy advocating can be.” \nParticipants will learn why their voice matters and how to advocate for children: at doctor’s appointments\, at parent teacher conferences\, at your job\, at town meetings\, at school board meetings\, by voting\, by contacting your state representative and more. Open to families\, professionals\, and all community members. FREE DINNER!
