SUMMARY:Manchester - The Story of Us
DESCRIPTION:Immigration. Storytelling. One Night. \nThe Story of Us. The Stories you do not know. \nA Free Event \nCelebrate Welcoming Manchester‘s Welcoming Week\, an annual celebration that invites communities across America to bring their immigrants and U.S.-born residents together. \nEveryday the media floods our lives with news stories about the immigrant crisis. Often times\, the experiences of the people living in the throes of it are silenced by design. Not anymore. We are refocusing the lens. \n“The Story of Us” is a one night event that uses the power of storytelling to explore the lives of immigrants from local communities. Several will be joining us to share their stories live. Join us as they recount their journeys to the United States and share their experiences as immigrants in our communities. This program will offer live storytelling\, a mixed media exhibit\, and opportunities for community dialogue and interaction. \nNo person’s story is alike\, yet all of our stories are connected. Our experiences are parts of a larger human narrative. We encourage you to learn about the stories you don’t know. We invite you to The Story of Us. \n*Join us as we start new conversations about immigration/refugee resettlement\, community\, and inclusion.* \nKya Roumimper will be one of the hosts. We recently held “The Story of Us Premiere” in April as the final thesis event of Kya’s M.Ed program at Merrimack College. Kya will share her discovery and findings from that event. \nLocation: Jupiter Hall\nDate: Friday\, September 21\, 2018\nTime: 6:30pm-9pm\nRefreshments will be served \nFor more information please contact Katie Bérubé at katie@jupiterhallnh.com \nAbout Jupiter Hall\nJupiter Hall is a community-oriented Multi-purpose venue located in Manchester\, NH where communities experience arts\, culture and innovation. SUMMARY:Concord - Immigration Bond Training - NH Immigrants' Rights Project
DESCRIPTION:Now is the time to act! \nACLU of New Hampshire has launched the New Hampshire Immigrants’ Rights Project dedicated to recruiting and training volunteer lawyers and providing direct representation for immigrant detainees at Strafford County Department of Corrections in Dover\, NH. We have our bond hearing training scheduled for September 13\, 2018\, at 6:00 PM at New England College (Concord Campus\, 62 N Main St\, Concord\, NH 03301). \nImmigrants detained in New Hampshire have very limited access to pro bono counsel for bond hearings. Getting immigrants released is a game changer\, as it drastically increases the likelihood they will ultimately win their cases. Be part of the New Hampshire Immigrants’ Rights Project! \nPresenters: \nRon Abramson (abramson IMMIGRATION+ SOLUTIONS) \nEmily Assunta White (abramson IMMIGRATION+ SOLUTIONS) \nSangYeob Kim (ACLU of New Hampshire) \nPlease RSVP by submitting this form http://bit.ly/2MlImnb. The training will be held in person in Concord\, New Hampshire. Let us know if you require any accommodation.

SUMMARY:Deering - All Eyes Are Upon Us: Racial Struggles in the Northeast\, from Jackie Robinson to Deval Patrick
DESCRIPTION:From Brooklyn to Boston\, from World War II to the present\, Jason Sokol traces the modern history of race and politics in the Northeast. Why did white fans come out to support Jackie Robinson as he broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947 even as Brooklyn’s blacks were shunted into segregated neighborhoods? How was African-American politician Ed Brooke of Massachusetts\, who won a Senate seat in 1966\, undone by the resistance to desegregation busing in Boston? Is the Northeast’s history a microcosm of America as a whole: outwardly democratic\, but inwardly conflicted over race?

SUMMARY:Pembroke - Immigrant and Refugee Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Immigrant and Refugee Support Group\nHere are some key tasks members of this group focus on: \n\nSupporting the Maranatha Indonesian UCC church in person by visiting them on the first Sunday of the month for their English service. No experience necessary. If you get to know someone with an open case you could write a letter of support for them which could help persuade the judge to decide in their favor.\nAlthough membership in the Maranatha Indonesian UCC has rebounded some since the 2011 deportations people with revocable immigration statuses are feeling threatened again. Send letters of encouragement to their congregation at 18 Town Hall Rd Madbury\, NH 03823.\nPastor Sandra says\, “When you make the choice to call your Members of Congress and Senators\, those calls make a difference.” The persistence of a small active group is needed!\nThe public needs to know about the benefits of welcoming immigrants. You could host an educational event at your church or attend a rally.\nThe group has recently has organized to provide financial support for immigrants detained in NH. Download the fundraising letter to learn more.\nJoin the Immigrant and Refugee Support Group and learn! \nNancy Pape\nNHCUCC Immigrant and Refugee Support Group\, chair\nEmail: nancy-pape@comcast.net\n\n\nMeeting Schedule\nThe next meeting of the Immigrant and Refugee Support Group will be: \nFriday\, September 7\, 2018\, 10 AM – 12 PM at the\nNew Hampshire Conference Center\n140 Sheep Davis Road\nPembroke\, NH \n\nFour-Day “Solidarity Walk for Immigrant Justice” to Begin August 22\nNew Hampshire faith leaders announced that they plan to trek from Manchester to Dover in a four day “Solidarity Walk for Immigrant Justice” beginning on August 22nd.  Father Samuel Fuller\, OFM Cap\, a Franciscan Friar serving at St. Anne-St. Augustin\, Manchester’s most diverse parish\, said “Our walk will mirror the trip an immigrant who is detained by I.C.E. takes from the Federal Building to the Strafford County Jail and possible deportation.
