SUMMARY:Nashua - Parent Workshop Series: Staying Connected With Your Teen
DESCRIPTION:Why is staying connected important? \nAdolescence is a time of great growth – and big changes for your teen. \nDuring this busy and exciting period\, it is more important than ever to work hard to stay connected. Research shows that strong family relationships play a critical role in kids’ success as they transition into adulthood. Parents who have healthy bonds with their children have the greatest influence on the choices and decisions their teens make. This can be a tricky time as you are delicately balancing giving independence\, providing direction and support and also setting limits. \nStaying Connected with Your Teen provides dedicated time in a comfortable setting for parents and caregivers of preteens and teens to explore their relationship with their child\, learn about some of the factors that impact that relationship\, and develop concrete skills to build and/or maintain positive bonds.\nDuring the five two-hour sessions\, you will find support and community and learn about the changes happening in your child’s body and brain so that you can better understand why they do what they do. \nWhat you’ll learn: \n· Skills for increasing communication and decreasing conflict\n· Ways to bond with your teen\n· Strategies for preventing high-risk behaviors\n· How to involve your teen at home in problem-solving\, decision making\, and responsibility \nParticipants benefit from hearing other parents’ experiences\, gaining perspective about their child\, and problem-solving ideas for their own home. \n“It opened me up to new ideas on how to connect with my child and how to plan for handling family roles/policies” – past participant \n“Hearing about other parents’ challenges\, helps me know that my son’s behavior is normal”\n– past participant \nWednesdays\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm\nJoin us for dinner before the program at 5:30!\nNovember 7\, 14\, 28\nDecember 5\, 12 \nArlington Street Community Center\n76 Arlington Street\nNashua\, NH 03060\nWhile it is intended and best for you to attend all five sessions\, we know that isn’t always possible. Come to as many as you can! \nPlease REGISTER on Eventbrite \nFor more information\, call Julie Yerkes\, Parent Coordinator at 978-226-3322 \nAdditional information will be posted on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/stayingconnectednh \nFor more information on the NH Teen Institute visit www.nhteeninstitute.org
