Portsmouth – Connections New Voices: 5 Immigrant Writers Offer Stories & Poems About Home

June 27, 2019 @ 2:30 PM

Free

Portsmouth Poet Laureate Tammi Truax and writer Terry Farish will read with five immigrant writers new to the Seacoast in New Hampshire Humanities’ New Voices reading series at the Pontine Theatre on June 27 at 6:30 pm. “New Voices” is an extension of the New Hampshire Humanities Connections reading and book discussion program, bringing an opportunity to students learning English to develop their own stories. New Hampshire Humanities matches professional writers with immigrant writers to learn from each other, edit words for power and clarity, and explore ways that bilingual writers bring new creativity to expression in English. In “New Voices” readings, writers introduce and read with new writers from around the world.

New Voices in Portsmouth is the fifth in the series that has gathered communities in Lebanon, Keene, Manchester, and Concord. Please come for readings, conversation, and refreshments and meet Leidiane Gabi, Sarah Cristina Clemar, Pilar Nadeau, and musician Cynthia Chatis. Free parking is available across the street at the public lot for the Plains Ball Field. For more information, visit www.nhhumanities.org/newvoices.
