Crossroads Film Series: Breaking the Chains of Trafficking
“Children of War”

Join the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire for a documentary film showing of Children of War, which puts a spotlight on former child soldiers over a three year period from war-torn Northern Uganda as they try to heal mentally, spiritually, and emotionally from their trauma in a rehabilitation center. The film showing will be followed by a moderated discussion featuring Conrad Mandsager, founder and CEO of the New Hampshire-based nonprofit ChildVoice which works to invest in the future of war-affected children and youth through education, counseling, professional development, mentoring, and more. We hope to see you there!

About “Children of War”:
Filmed inside the war zone of northern Uganda over a period of three years, Children of War is a unique and incandescent documentary which captures the story of a group of former child soldiers as they undergo a process of emotional and spiritual healing while in a rehabilitation center.

Having been abducted from their homes and schools and forced to become fighters by the Lords Resistance Army — a quasi-religious militia led by self-proclaimed prophet and war criminal Joseph Kony — the children struggle to confront and break through years of brutal abuse, extreme religious ideology, and participation in war crimes with the help of a heroic team of trauma counselors.

As these fearless allies guide the children forward into new lives, Children of War illuminates a powerful and cathartic story of forgiveness and hope in the aftermath of war.

About ChildVoice:
Since 2006, ChildVoice has worked to restore the voices of children silenced by war. ChildVoice reaches out to adolescent girls and their children who are affected by years of war in northern Uganda, South Sudan, Nigeria, and other at-risk countries, providing center- and community-based programs. ChildVoice intercedes on behalf of these highly vulnerable child mothers and other victims of sexual violence and exploitation, offering the counseling, education, and vocational training they need to rebuild their lives and regain their dignity.

ChildVoice empowers war-affected girls to lead productive, economically advantaged, and independent lives while contributing toward a better, sustainable future for their children and communities.

About Conrad Mandsager:
Throughout his career, Conrad Mandsager has provided program design, development, and evaluation services to numerous organizations seeking aggressive growth in new and existing ventures that serve at-risk populations. After completing his studies at Wartburg College and Iowa State University, he held senior management positions with Prison Fellowship Ministries, JAF Ministries, and Dare Mighty Things. Mandsager is currently the CEO of ChildVoice.

Conrad grew up in Africa and has returned numerous times to work with disadvantaged populations in Kenya, Ghana, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zambia.

In 2006, Conrad founded ChildVoice in response to the millions of children whose destinies are being destroyed by war. ChildVoice’s programs recognize that someone must speak for the voiceless and devastated children who often are unable even to whisper the horror of becoming young victims of brutality and inhumanity.
