How do you support your foreign-born students particularly during times of crisis? Immigrant and refugee students of all ages are being disproportionately affected during the combined crises of the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recession and heightened immigration restrictions. Learn how to support immigrant students and their communities, understand the impact of anti-immigrant policy, and center the immigrant voice across subject areas in the free online workshop 2020 Immigrant Student Success: Strategies and Tools for K-12 and Adult Educators on July 8 and 9, 12:00 to 3:00 PM EDT, three hours each day.
Hosted by The Immigrant Learning Center’s (ILC) Public Education Institute and Re-imagining Migration, participants will learn from presentations, group chats, interactive activities and discussions with experts how to:

Integrate immigrant stories, voices, history and culture into curriculum and teaching practices

Incorporate social–emotional learning and provide emotional support for immigrant students in times of crisis

Foster supportive relationships with immigrant students, families and communities

Create inclusive and welcoming learning environments, both in school and online

Understand and manage immigrant trauma, inform teaching strategies

Understand and reflect upon the role of the teacher in the learning and development of immigrant students
This free online workshop is for teachers, librarians, administrators, volunteers, community leaders and others interested in bringing immigration into K-12 and adult classrooms. Certificates of completion are available by request. This is the eighth annual Immigrant Student Success free online workshop.
