Online – Peace & Justice Conversations: Indigenous Peoples Day and the Myth of Columbus
October 12, 2020 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
FreeJoin NH Peace Action for the 9th installment in their Peace & Justice Conversations Series: Indigenous Peoples Day and the Myth of Columbus. Online, October 12, 7 pm.
The myth of Columbus is an important part of historical erasure of the genocide of native peoples.
In Vermont, and in many cities around the country, Columbus Day is no longer celebrated, and people instead dedicate this day to remembering the story of the indigenous people of this land.
Join Paul and Denise Pouliot, the speakers of the Contoocook band of the Abenaki, as they talk about the state of the movement to rename this day and talk about the experience of living in Central New Hampshire as a descendant of the people who lived here before European Colonization.
