Exeter – Stigma Across Cultures, a Cultural Effectiveness Training

January 24, 2019 @ 4:00 AM - 7:30 AM

Free

Cultural Effectiveness Training for all members of the Healthcare Team

Many people in need of Mental Health or Substance Use services do not access services. This session will look at language, attitudes, and behaviors that clients encounter and community messaging about MH and SUD. What does culture have to do with not accessing services? What is a micro-aggression? What does “Othering” mean? Hear from several community voices during this engaging training.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify three or more demographic groups and at least one way in which each group has experienced difficulty approaching MH or SUD services
  2. Discuss the impact of societal stigma and stereotyping on MH and SUD clients
  3. Apply best practices using client cases

Target Audience:

All members of your practice team, including medical assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, physicians, physician assistants, social workers, and administrative staff.

Training Team: Sharron Rowlett-Moore, Multicultural Affairs

Trainer and Project Manager, and Lynn Clowes, Cultural Effectiveness Trainer for Ascentria Care Alliance
