The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) chapter at the Geisel School of Medicine created Project HEAL in 2021 to promote anti-racism and critical self-reflection in the Upper Valley (NH/VT) and medical school through art, education, and advocacy. The Class of 2023 GHHS cohort identified the need for a sustained acknowledgment of Native and Indigenous people. They proposed an artwork to honor and recognize the Indigenous and Native people, particularly the Abenaki people, upon whose land the College stands.
