Daniels was an Episcopal seminarian and civil rights activist from Keene, NH, who was shot and killed in 1965 Hayneville, Alabama, while in the act of shielding 17-year-old Ruby Sales. This film chronicles his life and death.
Dr. Lawrence Benaquist, Professor Emeritus, Keene State College, founder of the Film Studies program, holds a doctorate in Renaissance Literature, and came to film shortly after his arrival at Keene State. As a visiting scholar at USC and UCLA, and an NEH grant to Brown University, he moved his area of interest to that of the study of cinema. The program now has 140 students, one of the largest programs at the College. Benaquist has produced several documentaries, one on the history of Keene State College that has aired on NHPBS, and the documentary on Jonathan Daniels, which was aired nationally on PBS.
